Yes techcrunch is based on the wordpress.
If you go to the bottom of the techcrunch page, it states in the bottom right "powered by wordpress.com"Answered 1 year agovaibhav1983
Sometimes I have seen WordPress favicon while viewing an article. Also in the page footer, if we check, we see "Powered my Wordpress.com. Indicates that it has been build on Wordpress.
